Tucked away inside the upscale neighborhood of Hawaii Kai/Portlock is a beautiful piece of Oahu coastline called Spitting Caves. This spot got its name from the caves created underneath the cliffs due to the constant tidal force hitting the rocks. The current is so powerful that every few minutes large gushes of water spray upward followed by the underwater cave sucking the water back in. The later is why Spitting Caves is so dangerous to cliff dive or swim...even the most experienced swimmers can be overtaken by the surge of the current and sucked into the cave's abyss.
Mirror Blue Ray Bans were the perfect island vacation accessory!
They call them Spitting Caves for a reason...
...and I'm outta here! (side note: I can't believe I was running on this cliff...beyond sketchy!)
The power of the water hitting the rocks is breathtaking. It's a great spot for vacation pictures or to come and clear your mind.
People actually swim and board out here (you can see some of them in this pic!). Be careful though, there are major accidents at Spitting Caves every week.
