Funny that The Whaling Station is known for their amazing steaks and I'm here to rave about everything on the menu but steak. For inquiring minds, I did experience the Petit Filet and it was divine. Flavor in every bite, perfectly cooked and even came with two small sides of mashed potatoes and spinach...which was surprising as I have been programmed to assume sides are ordered seperately in restaurants such as this one.
Located in Monterey California's historic Cannery Row, The Whaling Station is truly one of the city's culinary gems. The service here is unmatched in this city and the waiters detailed knowledge and impassioned descriptions leave you salivating for the menus many offerings. I can honestly say that my excitement grew with each new plate that came to our table.
I have never experienced a more delicate and paper-thin Beef Carpaccio. It literally folds onto your fork the moment you touch it.
Wedge Iceberg with Roquefort Dressing
When in Rome right!? Monterey, and Cannery Row specifically, is known for it's once booming sardine canning industry. Growing up with a dad that loves canned fish (anchovies anyone?) I was most excited about these Olive Oil Marinated & Grilled Sardines with Sicilian Salsa. The sardines were filleted tableside and presented a circus of flavors on the tongue. This is a must order item for sure!
Spot Prawns stuffed with Dungeness Crab over a Sweet Potato Puree
One of the seasons specials, Chanterelle Mushrooms (the bf's fave dish!)
Pavlova which is a meringue dessert that has a crisp crust and soft creamy filling topped with whipped cream, fruit and a passionfruit compote.
OMGGGGG!!! This is the kind of stuff I live for!!! This beautiful display is Pineapple Carpaccio and I have never seen a dessert quite like it! The pineapple is sliced paper-thin and topped with caramelized sugar and coconut pineapple gelato. It was like eating Hawaii...seriously a vacation in your mouth!
