Ice Cream is probably, no make that 100% my dessert of choice. Cup, cone or milkshake...there's just something about this cool, creamy treat that finds it always at the top of my rather bountiful dessert pyramid.
My love for ice cream becomes a problem when I'm presented with too many scrumptious options at a time (yes, you can have too much of a good thing!). I've felt this way at places like Sweet Rose Creamery and Lappert's in Maui. These are ice cream shops that just can't seem to get it wrong, they churn out flavor after flavor of inspired deliciousness on a daily basis (not to mention, some of the flavors are seasonal or limited edition which equates to "eat me now cause you'll probably never see me again" I mean COME ON!!) and it drives me mad trying to narrow my choice down to 1 or 2 flavors.
Well guess what, you know that lovely little cupcake spot that's not so little anymore...the one that's mentioned frequently on Cupcake Wars and now even has cupcake "atm's". Yeah that one...that huge conglomerate of a cupcake empire known as Sprinkles. Well now they have ice cream and I can already feel a mini panic attack coming on because leave it to the Queen of all cupcakes to do ice cream like you've never seen it done before!
I've been dying to visit one of the Sprinkles Ice Cream locations (there are only 2 at the moment but they ship nationwide!) and by sheer coincidence, while on a cupcake run for the bf, I happened upon the elusive Sprinkles Ice Cream shop in Newport Beach right next to the Sprinkles Cupcake shop (duh, I mean really...you could have warned me YELP, I thought we were foodie friends!).
Sprinkles Ice Cream is a tiny, TINY little shop but so full of character with its simplistic stark white walls and grabbing red lettering. It's clear that the desserts are the planned focal point as soon as you walk in (as they should be...distraction free). The giant cookies and striking red velvet waffle cones are the first to catch your eye but after seeing someone walk out with a cupcake-topped wonder of a sundae...I knew my fate was sealed. I narrowed my flavors down to a 1/2 scoop of Black & White (a delicate blend of sweet cream mixed with rich chocolate cake, vanilla frosting and chocolate sprinkles) and a 1/2 scoop of Pistachio (a hard to resist classic...but Sprinkles slightly more salty version is the best pistachio ice cream I've tasted!) topped with the cap of a Dark Chocolate Banana Cupcake while the rest of the cupcake waiting patiently at the bottom of the cup under the ice cream.
At Sprinkles, all of the ice cream combinations of your dreams come true: Peanut Butter Pretzel Chip Cookie Sandwiches with Salty Caramel Ice Cream, Stacked Cones with Red Velvet Ice Cream and Rainbow Sprinkles...the flavor combo possibilities will make your head spin with excitement! I suggest never going alone and using the buddy system...or the several buddies system (so you can try every flavor of course!!)
You really can have your cake and eat it too!
