Bacon Wrapped Dates with Spicy Plum Sauce from Tiato in Santa Monica. It's hard for me to resist a Bacon Wrapped Date...if it's on the menu, there is a 100% chance I will be ordering it!
Tiato is a beautiful restaurant with a large, lush garden patio and inspired contemporary interior with Edison style light bulbs dangling from the ceiling (perfect for a party or reception!!)..and we can walk from our office (!!) so when my friend Kelli saw that these were featured on Friday's menu we were there! Tiato's version featured really thick slices of bacon (different then those I have tasted in the past). That addition proved a nice counter texture to the mushy date and helped balance the dish giving it a 50:50 smoky to sweet ratio, preventing the date from taking over.
Oh cupcakes...so many flavors, so many hours at the gym to justify eating all of them! In my circle of friends, I'm pretty sure the cupcake holds true as the dessert we all love most. I was in a really chocolaty mood when I ordered this Mud Pie Cupcake from Yummy Cupcakes in Brentwood..and it hit the spot on every level. Chocolate Cake filled with Chocolate Ganache and topped with Chocolate Buttercream, Crushed Cookies and drizzled fudge. Talk about an indulgent chocolate fix!
Look at this bun! I knew it was a sign of great things to come. Simple, hearty Turkey Burger on a Pretzel Bun with Swiss Cheese and Tomato from Stefan's L.A. Farm in Santa Monica (Stefan as in Stefan Richter from Top Chef). On occasion, simple is best and in this case, the Pretzel Bun alone made this Turkey Burger far beyond average.
Can you imagine how psyched I was to find out that Lollipop Trio was a dessert option at Stefan's L.A. Farm (I should have known considering lollipops are Stefan's "thing")...doesn't that just sound so whimsical(!) I could hardly wait to taste the frozen treats! So much so that I refused to share with anyone else at my table...seriously, I warned them beforehand to order there own or read about it later ;). The flavors change by the season but today I was served Passion Fruit,Green Apple, and Peanut Butter Chocolate. Each was a delightful mix of sorbet and ice cream with a surprise center! The Passion Fruit had a Pineapple center, the Apple and Apple center and the Peanut Butter Chocolate a Chocolate center. Each bite was absolute heaven...it's worth coming here just to try these!
This was my second time at Baja Cantina in Marina Del Rey and my second time ordering their remarkable Rosarito Fried Fish Tacos. Both times I was there to watch some "big game" that I had no clue about, but there's just something about everyone cheering and coming together for a sports event that gets me so amped! These are some of the best Fish Taco's I've tasted...super crispy Beer Battered Halibut with Shredded Cabbage, Pico De Gallo, Crema Fresca and a side of Mango Salsa ahhhhh-mazing!!! Pretty close to the Fish Tacos I had in Mexico which is a great thing!
Flat screen TV's and killer Fish Tacos...match made in "I could care less about this sport but I love people and food" heaven!
