Ice Cream is one of my favorite desserts..I just can’t get enough!! Because of this, I prevent myself from buying pints at the grocery store for fear that I will devour the entire container in one sitting (this has happened way too many times). So the next best thing for me is scouring the city for delectable scoops that are unique, inspired and sometimes even awkward.
It reminds me of the simple, small town country ice cream shops I’m used to seeing in the South...which for some reason subconsciously makes me think the ice cream is a step above because it must come from homegrown origins and lots of love…and actually that's not too far from what Sweet Rose Creamery is about, they focus on quality ingredients, farmers market produce and artisanal production. Everything is made from scratch (!) from cones to toppings, sauces and of course the ice cream itself...no stabilizers or ice cream bases are used...just pure milk, cream, eggs, and sugar goodness.
They serve up so many tempting treats, Strawberry-Rhubarb Pops, Butterscotch Crunch Sundaes, Ice Cream Pies, Chocolate Dipped Bananas, most of which stare you down at the front door as you walk by the cute little circulating display tower. I'm surprised I haven't tried licking the glass yet...
I find it increasingly difficult to choose which flavor to order and always end up getting at least two. On my first trip to Sweet Rose Creamery two weeks ago I chose the soothing and refreshing Lemon Chamomile and couldn't resist the unmistakably salty Salted Caramel...but then they threw me for a loop, the girl behind the counter asked me if I wanted a topping and when I looked over at the array of choices, my mind started wheeling...how the heck was I supposed to choose from these enticing little pots of perfection!
Pecan Brittle, Homemade Marshmallows, Candied Ginger, Cocoa Nibs, Spicy Nuts, Brownie Bites
...and then I heard the three words that sealed my soon to be addiction to Sweet Rose Creamery...Salted Walnut Crumble (ahhhh!). Sweet, salty, rich, buttery...it tasted like the cobbler in peach cobbler mixed with the crisp in apple crisp...basically just heaven, there you have it, it tasted like heaven!
Second time around I brought my friend Christina (who was just as psyched about this place as I was btw) we both couldn't resist ordering the Lemon Chamomile then she got hooked on the interestingly herbaceous Basil, while my second flavor this round was the tart and creamy Coconut Lime Sorbet. Christina went purist and nixed the toppings but you know I covered mine with my fave Salted Walnut Crumble!
I think I might try something adventurous next time...maybe the Niman Ranch Bacon Sundae (you only live once right!!)
