Whenever I tell you I plan to go back and try something...I mean it! In fact, usually I end up going back within days because I can't get it off of my mind! It literally becomes some kind of weird food obsession where I imagine everyone in town knowing that a certain something on the restaurants menu is ToDieFor and I'm left in the dark because I...didn't...order...it (!!) What a moron! (I mean, not that there is any way I could have known this information prior to my dining at the particular spot since this type of information never fails to come after I've written the blog post, but I'm just saying...) I can't just sit back and let the rest of the world enjoy something that word on the street is insanely delicious! Patience is not an option! I MUST try it, HAVE to have it...and am always really curious to see if what was recommended is actually, truly, legitimately that good...
I'm a huge fan of Deviled Eggs in general but I have never had Deviled Eggs like this...considering the eggs are sprinkled with green onion and little pieces of Sugar Cured Bacon! My friend Danielle and I were acting like giddy children when we got this ultra luscious appetizer...I mean look at it!...where do you begin, it's perfection on a plate! I have to say the star of this show is the bacon and this is the best bacon I have ever had...thick and savory, but crusted with sweet cane sugar so that it's almost candied. After the first bite, your mouth will literally salivate in anticipation of the next.
Verdict: This absolutely lives up to the hype!
Brussels Sprouts w/ Smoked Bacon from The Village Idiot (Melrose):
After my post on The Village Idiot back in September...pretty much everyone I came in contact with told me that the Brussels Sprouts are a MUST try. A lot of people have an aversion to brussels sprouts, likely due to their slightly bitter taste and pungent smell, which is actually a result of them being overcooked...so if done correctly, you may actually enjoy them. I prefer well-seasoned brussels sprouts, which is exactly what the Village Idiot has produced cooking theirs with browned butter and large chunks of bacon. They make you feel all warm inside because even though you know the sprouts come from a hipster pub on Melrose, they taste like a Grandma has been slaving over a hot stove all day long, pouring tons of love inside of a huge pot filled with these mini green buds.
Verdict: Nice, home-cooked comfort taste capable of converting any brussels sprouts hater!
*Oh and I also tried Village Idiot's Trout BLT with Idaho Trout, Arugula, Heirloom Tomatoes, Smoked Bacon, and Lemon Aioli...just think of it as the upgraded version of the original...B O M B! The Lemon Aioli is the ticket!
Nuts for Cacao Smoothie from Juicy Ladies (Woodland Hills):
I now understand why the lady from my last visit comes to Juicy Ladies every day for this smoothie. It's much different than any chocolate smoothie I've ever tasted...lighter, more refreshing, and I really like that the chocolate flavor comes from cacao nibs (aka pieces of raw chocolate) instead of a powder because after each sip there are always little nibs left to melt on your tongue creating the perfect chocolate-y aftertaste. (FYI: The first sip is a little surprising because your taste buds have to adjust to the distinctive flavor of coconut water...but once you get used to it you'll be hooked too!)
Verdict: I'm making this my new favorite smoothie!
I always go back people...who wants to miss out on a good thing?! Not me!
