You just can't deny a room full of sweets! The girls and I ventured out to this fabulous event last Friday called Savor Los Angeles that my dear Kelli found for us on a blog she was skimming.
This was sugar shangri-la...endless sweet treats, beautiful venue, well put together by the Parallel Lines team, killer DJ, great selection of cocktails at the bar, and most importantly...the food didn't run out (what a concept!! An event that was prepared for its crowd!)
We began with colorful cream puffs from Plaisir (French for "pleasure"). I chose a Strawberry, Kelli had Lemon, and Caiti went for cheesecake...I think it was the burst of color that made us gravitate towards the Plaisir table. They weren't only vividly decorated on the outside, the sweet, creamy center of the profiteroles were just as bright and yummy, a nice surprise when you’re used to the standard vanilla or chocolate filling!
One of our absolute favorites was this creation from Gotta have S’more called a "S’muffin". It’s like a cupcake and a s’more rolled into one…the base is buttery graham cracker, dipped in chocolate, topped with toasted marshmallow and garnished with a chunk of chocolate...and more chunks baked inside(!) That's the Milk Chocolate flavor of course, but they have others: Caramel, Dark Chocolate, Cookies ‘n Crème, Crème de Menthe, Almond Joy and Peanut Butter...and I want to try them ALL!
If only pictures were edible! I can still feel the cool lemon custard that topped my cheesecake hitting my tongue...in fact, I don't think I can ever eat another brand of cheesecake again...the delectable little cylinder from Pure Cheesecakes was smooth, rich, tart, spectacular!...and is the official catalyst to my new obsession with all things lemon!
We were big fans of Sweets for the Soul's bite-sized brownies called "Brownie Points" (how adorable!) They even named their most popular Brownie Point of the day the"Obama Brownie" which was a chocolate brownie with dark and white chocolate chips...clever and scrumptious...not to mention, probably one of the best brownies I've had! (The little devil on my shoulder told me to go back and grab a few more because they were so darn good, but my conscious prevailed…I didn’t want to be greedy!)
What a great idea to put cake on a stick! I was pleased to find that we each got to choose our own Vanilla, Chocolate, or Red Velvet Popcake to take with us (vs. a tiny piece of one). We all decided to save our individually wrapped Popcakes until after the event so we'd have something to "savor" (get it...haha) later. On our way home, and after dropping Caiti off, Kelli started getting streams of texts from her telling us how amazing this little cake pop was...I mean GUSHING with positive adjectives! If I could only have located my purse (which happened to be in the trunk) I would have ripped the wrapper off of my own Popcake and tried it myself, then and there, just due to Caiti's sheer enthusiasm! You can see in the picture below how dense the center is...it's got a really great texture that prevents the pop from crumbling into pieces when you eat it. So Caiti was right...this dazzling little pop is not only portable...but very tasty!
I'm generally not a fan of macarons...until I tried XT Patisserie! Their cookies we're clearly a big hit...they were going faster than the people could lay them out! The delicate macarons were filled with the most vibrant variety of flavors...caramel, chocolate, coconut, coffee, earl grey, hazelnut, lemon, orange blossom, passion fruit, pistachio, raspberry, vanilla...YUM! The people at XT Patisserie were so generous...they actually encouraged us to taste them all! My absolute favorite was the passion fruit but all were seriously incredible! I am convinced that these are the only macarons I will ever like...we shall see!
P.O.P Candy had a unique twist to traditional peanut brittle...Rosemary Almond Butter Crunch! It may be a bit odd to some, but I thought it had a nice earthy taste...and, I think it's cool that they're mixing it up with something different than the norm!
Kelli and Caiti could not stop raving about the Blueberry gelato at N'ice Cream! It actually tasted like real, sweet blueberries! N'ice Cream makes each of their gelatos and sorbets in micro batches, made fresh daily...perhaps that's why it tastes so flawless...
Frosted Cupcakery, a.k.a. "My new favorite cupcake shop", not only had several impeccably decorated varieties of their cupcakes...they also brought along these brilliant little cupcake sandwiches called "hi-tops"! It looks like 2 mini cupcake tops smooshed together with frosting in the center...easy to eat, the perfect size, and tastes incredible! I had the salted caramel "hi-top" which was 2 super moist vanilla cupcake tops with a caramel buttercream center and sprinkled SEA SALT!!!!! My favorite of the night for sure! (...and when I REALLY love something, I can't get enough!...so of course I visited the shop a few days later to get more goodies! I'll be posting about that visit soon!)
A fantastic, yum-filled way to spend a Friday night...I'm ready for round 2!
