A lot of people are weirded out by Figs...(I was too before I tried them). First thought was, how am I supposed to eat this thing...followed by, it looks really weird and seedy inside and I don't understand how something that looks like this is supposed to taste good...and then...I tried them...and I absolutely LOVED them!!! (I guess Figs are like my Green Eggs and Ham or something) Who would have known Figs are actually quite sweet...the best is when they're really soft and ripe, it's like you're eating a candy (and are SO GOOD w/ vanilla ice cream!)
I am now borderline obsessed w/ Figs considering todays quest to locate some:
I was out shopping for the usual lettuce, blueberries, special K, sandwich items etc that make up my grocery list...and then, I saw the little $2.99 sign at TJ's that told me Figs were back in season(yay!)...but they were no where to be seen! (Apparently, the rest of LA was just as excited as I was about Figs being back and bought them ALL! I had to drive to 3 different Trader Joe's in order to snag a box. Each time I arrived and walked over to the the barren area where the figs should have been, I felt like dropping to my knees dramatically (like in the movies) and screaming NOOOOOOO!!!...but I refrained, pulled myself together, and went on to the next TJ's! (A little insight about me: When I want something, I absolutely MUST have it and I will stop at nothing to get it (haha!), in certain circumstances my tenacity can be a bit of a problem since I probably wouldn't have stopped searching for the figs...and would have continued on to 14 other stores until the figs were in my possession...
...but alas! I'm eating them right now as I write this post and the sun sets on a breezy evening in the (at the moment) fabulous California...SO HAPPY!!
