When you first enter it's as if you've been transported to some tranquil place on the exact opposite end of wherever Hollywood is on this make-believe map in my head (minus the drop-dead lookers dining that is...) You instinctively exhale...lighting is dim, colors are cool blues and creams, decor is reminiscent of days of yore...you could swear you were dining in a small (albeit upper crust) coastal town in France which is a stark contrast to the bustle happening right outside the restaurant doors and not exactly what you would expect at Hollywood's hottest/chicest/swankiest/coolest/trendiest hotel that is The W Hollywood...and that's the beauty of it.
Katana Fusion I always like to begin my Delphine experience w/ the hands down best cocktail in all of LA (seriously!) The Delphine's Katana Fusion is a fruity concoction of Sky Raspberry Vodka, Watermelon Pucker, Triple Sec, and infused with Pineapple, Honeydew, Cranberry, Watermelon and Cantaloupe juices. (I mean COME ON! It doesn't get any better than that!...just beware, this one will sneak up on you!)...and the food, THE FOOD!! I'm going to single out a few of my faves!
Mushroom Ravioli I have a serious addiction to their Mushroom Ravioli...it makes me feel warm and cozy inside. Served w/ butternut squash, spinach, hazelnuts, and (of course) lots of flavorful mushrooms...but I think it's the sage brown butter sauce that gets me (mmm!). A hearty combo delivered in a perfect sized portion...which is great since you must must MUST leave room for dessert!
le grand delphine
If seafood is your thing...the le petit delphine is your answer to seafood nirvana (it's definitely mine!) No crustacean left behind, this towered monstrosity varies depending on the fresh selection of the day and includes an array of Oysters, Jumbo Shrimp, Mussels, Dungeness Crab, Barnacles, Periwinkles, and Ceviche. I'd say it's perfect for 3-4 people to share as appetizer...not to mention it's fun to watch all eyes in the restaurant turn to follow the trail of the le petit delphine as it's delivered to your table! (They also have le grand delphine which includes a third tier of seafood as opposed to le petit's two!)
Recently, Delphine switched up a few things on their menu and I was sad to see my ToDieFor Pistachio & Blackberry Clafoutis (think warm bread pudding) go...but I embrace change and discovered this little gem called Chilled Apple Risotto(!) which is Tart Green Apple Rice, Caramel Apples, and Salted Caramel Ice Cream...I was intrigued! Apple crisp type flavors w/ completely different textures. I was most curious about the risotto and was pleasantly surprised with how well it held up as the desserts base and absorbed the tart apple flavor..so unique...so good and the Salted Caramel Ice Cream alone (Vanilla Ice Cream w/ soft chunks of Sea Salted Caramels) was enough to make me order this again!
Chilled Apple Risotto
Yes, it really is THAT good, which is why I can no longer keep track of how many times I have dined here. So next time you're at the Delphine, and you've come to the end of your meal, reminiscing about the incredible flavors that just a few minutes ago graced your palette...snap out of it!, you're still at the W baby so go live it up!
Can't wait for my next visit (!!)
